Zenith Replica made my favorite perpetual calendar ever in 1944. Reference 1591 was an audacious watch that combined elegant functionality with technical innovation in the perpetual calendar, as well as a waterproof case and luminous dial and hands. The 1591, in keeping with its sporting nature, featured a large seconds hand mounted centrally, as opposed to the small seconds hand shared by the subdials at 6 o'clock on the 1526. These elements, taken together, indicated that the steel-cased watch was designed for a sportsman who wanted to wear it while engaging in all sorts of intense activities.Zenith Replica
Some of these -- as shown by its luminous appearance -- could have been nighttime. The man in question is reputedly an Indian Maharaja with a passion for polo, among other sports. The movement of this watch was protected against magnetism by a shield made from soft iron, similar to those used on scientific watches at the time. The watch was imported by Patek India distributor Favre Leuba. According to the story, the Maharaja gave the watch away after his wedding. It's a shame, because there were only ever two made. This one is in steel (case No. 635 565 and movement No. 864 470), while the other was yellow-gold. The other was yellow-gold. Christie's sold the timepiece in 2007 for SFr.2,513,000. which was a major influence on the design. The watches are powered by the same Victorin Piguet movement as the 1526. It is now called 12 SC, for seconds centrale QP. The reason we mention the Christie's sale of 2007 is that, at the time, and ever since, people have believed that the steel item that was offered for auction (which once belonged to the Indian Maharaja, and now is part of a collection in a private home) is the only one in existence. One of the other examples that was cataloged in yellow gold. This particular example, which we can see in the photos here and was on display at the Watch Art Grand ExhibitionSingapore 2019 is one that had never been shown before.
